Some of my best friends are Canadians - Feeling Sheepish (1980, UK, electronic/new wave)
Tuesday, October 10, 2006, 06:45 PM - Music, - UK, English
Is this Phil Thornton who makes new age / world music records these days? Not bad, but this is different stuff!
Speaking Clock gets a 9 on the White Noise Scale.

Really good and totally unknown.

Phil Thornton - Vocals, keyboards
Kym Guest - Vocals
Mave McKnight - Percussion

Yes, it's him:

Mistral - Jamie (1977, NL, electronic/synth pop)
Monday, October 9, 2006, 05:31 PM - Music, - NL, English
An early synth pop tune written by Robbie van Leeuwen (ex Shocking Blue). All sequencer stuff with a very female voice of Sylvia van Asten. The flip side is muzak.

Silly cover, but the mice liked it.

Electronic Concept Orchestra - Moog Groove (1967, US, electronic)
Sunday, October 8, 2006, 04:30 PM - Music, - US, English
The Electronic Concept Orchestra made three albums: Moog Groove, Cinemoog and Electric Love. All containing Moog versions of popular songs. I got Moog Groove from Feddo (thanks), my mate in old psychedelic music. It is a pressing from 1969.
I think The Electronic Concept Orchestra was not a real orchestra, it was Robin McBride as director, Eddie Higgins on Moog and other keyboards and a bunch of studio musicians.

My lp is a bit scratchy and the noise reduction software works more on the synthesizer than on the clicks. So I post mp3's that I've downloaded a while ago.

Side one:
1 Aquarius
2 Oh Happy Day
3 Hey Jude
4 Both Sides Now
5 Grazing In The Grass

Side two:
1 Feelin' Alright
2 Penny Lane
3 Atlantis
4 Rock Me
5 Windmills of Your Mind

Gerry & the Holograms - Meet the Dissidents (1979, UK, electronic/new wave/weird)
Friday, October 6, 2006, 09:35 PM - Music, - UK, English
gramm...gramm...gramm...gramm...gramm...gramm...
I wish I wrote those words.
Another Absurd Record.
'Did I say there were 16 of me? / I'm sorry, there's only 1 / The others are just fragments / Of Gerry and The Holograms...'

I read somewhere that they also produced a 7" called 'The Emperor's new music', which you couldn't play because it was glued to the sleeve.

Minny Pops - Kojak (1979, NL, electronic/new wave)
Wednesday, October 4, 2006, 08:51 PM - Music, - NL, English
Dutch band, at the time of this Kojak 7" formed by Wally van Middendorp (vocals, Korg Mini Pops rhythm box), Frans Hagenaars (bass) and Peter Mertens (guitar).
The latter I know from P.A.R.K., our tv and internet art broadcasting foundation.

Very minimalistic electronic music.
The Minny Pops have their own site, not much happened there since december 12th 2004.

Transvolta - Disco-Computer (1978, BE, electronic/disco)
Tuesday, October 3, 2006, 11:46 PM - Music, - BE, English
This was the prediction of the Groovebox.
Nice mechanic disco tune with vocoder.
Transvolta actually is Dan Lacksman of Belgium band Telex.
Telex represented Belgium for the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest and immediately the organisation made a problem about the use of the vocoder.
This fuzz caused Telex not to use it. Instead of that they made a very lame show, ridiculing the glitter acts (Telex used confetti out of their pockets)

B-side is an extension of the same song.
