Jah Wobble - Island Paradise (1987, UK, new wave/ethnic/dub)
Monday, March 26, 2007, 06:05 PM - Music, - UK, English
Despite some re-issues (Betrayal, Psalms) and samplers (Early Years, Anthology), a lot of the music of Jah Wobble never came available on cd and probably never will. He is too busy with producing new music on 30 Hertz Records.
I will post some 12"s with earlier work that (at least some songs) isn't released on compact disc.
Lead vocals on Island Paradise by Bim Sherman.

1 Island Paradise (club mix) [6:02]
2 Alcohol/Jihad [5:25]
3 Island Paradise (white mix) [2:42]

Both Island Paradise versions differ from the lp/cd Psalms version.

The Flirts - Passion (1982, US, pop/electronic)
Wednesday, March 21, 2007, 08:39 PM - Music, - US, English
The Flirts were a creation of Bobby Orlando. B-52's like music; in the slower, synthesizer based songs, more like Donna Summer. Bobby O. was producer of Divine, the early Pet Shop Boys and Lisa Lisa.

2 Boy crazy [3:09]
3 On the beach [2:59]
4 Passion (Special R.E.M.I.X.) [8:56]

Side two:
1 We just want to dance [2:42]
2 Calling all boys [4:27]
3 Jungle rock [3:01]
4 I only want to be with you [2:22]
5 Surf's up [3:03]

Mike Hankinson - The Unusual Classical Synthesizer (1972, UK/US, electronic/classical)
Wednesday, March 14, 2007, 08:45 PM - Music, - UK, - US, English
Mike Hankinson was born in Great Britain and lives in South Africa, but this lp was produced in the United States. I got the mp3's and scans from a visitor, who was so kind to allow me to share them.

from the sleeve notes:
This record is the first L.P. ever recorded using only the Electronic Music Studios "Synthi" VCS-3. This instrument has the capability of producing virtually any sound, but was used purely as a straight musical instrument on this L.P. The only modification - a potentiometer control was added, which gave a sliding octave up or down, by rotating the control, thus extending the keyboard to 5 octaves.

Side one:
1 Toccata and Fugue in D minor (Bach) [7:05]
2 Variations - Mein junges Leben hat ein End (Sweelinck) [3:29]
3 Sonata in D major (Scarlatti) [2:46]
4 Sonata Rondo (Clementi) [3:20]

Side two:
1 Concerto in A minor (Bach) [2:59]
2 Eine kleine Nachtmusik (Mozart) [3:37]
3 Italian Concerto (Bach) [3:37]
4 Moonlight Sonata (Beethoven) [5:08]

Joop Stokkermans - The Magic of the ARP-Synthesizer (1970, NL, electronic)
Thursday, March 8, 2007, 06:29 PM - Music, - NL, English
Stokkermans is a famous composer in the Netherlands. He wrote the music for television series like Q & Q, Oebele, Tita Tovenaar, Kunt U Mij De Weg Naar Hamelen Vertellen Meneer, Barbapapa and De Berenboot. And he wrote songs for Dutch artists like Jasperina de Jong, Rob de Nijs, Paul de Leeuw, Saskia & Serge and Ronnie Tober.
All terrible in my opinion, consider yourself lucky if you don't know those names.
In 1970 he got fascinated by the wonder of the synthesizer and made an album with the ARP of Roddy de Hilster, who programmed the sounds. Bert Paige was the orchestra conductor.

I bought this lp last week from an accordion enthusiast who sold all his records.

Side one:
1 Electronic air
2 I should have known
3 Tijd...
4 Dansen met de Fransen
5 This guy's in love with you
6 Was dit 't

Side two:
1 Je t'attends
2 Blij zijn zolang het nog kan
3 Uren
4 The Swan
5 In the chapel in the moonlight
6 Jazz wals

Blueprint - Prototypes (1980, UK/CA, pub rock/new wave)
Tuesday, March 6, 2007, 07:50 PM - Music, - CA, - UK, English
Prototypes was a sampler by the Blueprint label. On it, 2 songs each of four acts: Fabulous Poodles, Karel Fialka, The Crooks and B.B.Gabor. The bands had not much in common and Blueprint was not a success and disappeared soon.
I personally like the dark synthesizer work of Karel Fialka the best.

Side one:
1 Fabulous Poodles - Mirror Star [4:25]
2 Fabulous Poodles - Pink City Twist [2:17]
3 Karel Fialka - Armband [3:27]
4 Karel Fialka - People are Strange (Doors cover) [3:02]

Side two:
1 The Crooks - Modern Boys [2:45]
2 The Crooks - Sound of Today [2:46]
3 B.B. Gabor - Soviet Jewellery [2:35]
4 B.B. Gabor - All the Time [5:02]
